Delokaliseeritud

Delokaliseeritud is a term used to describe electrons or electronic states whose probability density is spread over several atoms rather than localized to a single atom or bond. This phenomenon occurs prominently in pi-electron systems, such as conjugated dienes and aromatic rings, where p orbitals overlap across multiple atoms and form extended molecular orbitals.

In chemistry, delokalization stabilizes a molecule by distributing electron density and charge over many centers. According to resonance theory, the real structure is a weighted average of several contributing forms; in molecular orbital theory, electrons occupy delocalized pi orbitals that extend over the entire conjugated framework, as in benzene. Delokalized electrons influence properties such as the extra stability of aromatic compounds and the color of many conjugated dyes, arising from electronic transitions within the delocalized system.

In solid-state physics, delokalization describes electrons that are not bound to a single atom but can move through a lattice, as seen in metals and graphite, enabling electrical conductivity.

Distinction from localization is a key aspect: localization means electrons are confined to a specific bond, atom, or lone pair, while delokalization means the electron density is spread over several atoms. Both concepts are central to understanding molecular structure, reactivity, and physical properties, and they are complementary components of quantum-chemical descriptions. Delokalizasyon is thus a fundamental idea across chemistry and solid-state physics, reflecting how electron distribution shapes stability, color, and conductivity.
