Declinace

Declinace is a term encountered in linguistic contexts to denote inflection, the systematic variation of a word to express grammatical categories such as case, number, and gender. In descriptions of language, declinace refers to the set of inflected forms a word can take within its grammar. The exact usage and spelling of the term vary by language, with related words such as deklinace or deklinacja commonly used to describe the same concept in different linguistic traditions. The study of declinace includes identifying inflectional classes, or paradigms, and mapping how forms change across different grammatical contexts.

In practice, declinace describes the paradigm of a word's inflected forms. Nouns, adjectives, pronouns, and numerals often belong to one or more declension classes, each with a defined pattern of endings for different cases and numbers.
