Decisioni is the Italian plural of decisione, referring to conclusions or choices reached after consideration. The term derives from Latin decisio, via the Italian decisione, and ultimately from decidere, meaning to cut off or to determine. In Italian, decisioni are used across politics, business, law, and everyday life to describe the act of selecting among alternatives and committing to a course of action.

A decision or decisioni represents the result of a cognitive process that begins with recognizing a goal or problem and ends with choosing and acting on a course of action. Decisions can be classified by scope and context as individual or collective, routine or non-routine, strategic or operational. They may occur in formal settings (policy decisions, budget allocations) or informal ones (personal plans or habits). The decision-making process typically involves: identifying the issue, generating options, evaluating consequences, selecting an option, implementing it, and monitoring results.

Several models explain how decisions are made. The rational model assumes complete information and systematic evaluation; bounded rationality emphasizes limits on information and cognitive capacity; intuitive or heuristic approaches rely on experience and quick judgments. Group decisions add dynamics such as negotiation, consensus-seeking, and sometimes groupthink, with tools like brainstorming or nominal group technique. Cognitive biases—confirmation bias, overconfidence, sunk-cost effects—can influence outcomes.

Practical approaches include decision trees, payoff or risk matrices, and data-driven analyses that use quantitative or qualitative evidence. In governance and business, decisioni are often documented in records, policies, or minutes, and assessed through feedback, auditing, and post-decision reviews to improve future choices.
