Dartthrowing

Dartthrowing, commonly known as darts, is a sport in which small, pointed missiles called darts are thrown with the hand toward a circular target, known as a dartboard, which is fixed to a wall at a distance of 9 feet 7 19/32 inches (2.97 meters) from the throwing line. The game is primarily played by two players, or by two teams, but can also accommodate three or more players.

The dartboard is divided into 20 numbered sections, plus a bullseye in the center. Points are scored based on which section the dart lands in. The outer ring of each section doubles the score, and the inner ring triples it. The bullseye is worth 50 points, and the outer bull is worth 25. Standard games of darts often involve players starting with a score of 501 or 301 and aiming to reduce their score to zero. The game requires precision, concentration, and a consistent throwing technique.

Darts has a long history, with origins dating back to medieval England. It evolved from archery practice, where soldiers would throw short arrows at tree trunks or barrels. Over time, the practice became a pastime, and eventually, the dartboard and standardized rules emerged. Today, darts is a popular sport played in pubs, clubs, and professional tournaments worldwide, with significant prize money and a dedicated following. The sport requires skill in aiming, judging distance, and controlling the throw.
