Dagsömnighet

Dagsömnighet refers to a persistent feeling of sleepiness or excessive tiredness during the daytime. It is a common symptom that can affect individuals of all ages and can significantly impair daily functioning, including concentration, memory, mood, and overall quality of life. While occasional drowsiness can be attributed to insufficient sleep, chronic dagsömnighet may indicate an underlying medical condition or sleep disorder.

Common causes of dagsömnighet include inadequate sleep duration or poor sleep quality, often due to lifestyle factors like irregular sleep schedules, stress, or excessive caffeine or alcohol consumption. Lifestyle factors like shift work or jet lag can also disrupt the body's natural sleep-wake cycle, leading to daytime sleepiness.

Diagnosing the cause of dagsömnighet typically involves a thorough medical history, a physical examination, and sometimes a sleep study (polysomnography). Treatment strategies vary depending on the underlying cause and may include improving sleep hygiene, lifestyle modifications, psychotherapy, or specific medical treatments for diagnosed sleep disorders or medical conditions.
