Daenerys

Daenerys Targaryen is a fictional character in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga and its television adaptation, Game of Thrones. She is introduced as a member of the deposed House Targaryen and is often described by titles such as Daenerys Stormborn, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Realm, and Daenerys the Unburnt. Her narrative centers on her efforts to reclaim the Iron Throne and to redefine power in the world.

Born on Dragonstone during a storm, Daenerys is the daughter of King Aerys II Targaryen and Queen Rhaella. After the rebellion that ends her family’s rule, she and her brother Viserys are exiled across the Narrow Sea. Her arc begins in earnest after she marries Khal Drogo, becomes Khaleesi, and, notably, hatches three dragon eggs into living dragons—Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion—the first dragons seen in centuries.

Her campaigns in the eastern continents involve the liberation of enslaved populations and the consolidation of power. In Slaver’s Bay she defeats the masters of Astapor and Yunkai and later governs Meereen, attempting to balance reform with military and political realities. She earns broad support as a liberator but faces opposition, with consequences for governance and diplomacy.

In the television series, she sails to Westeros to press her claim to the throne, forming allies such as Tyrion Lannister and the Unsullied. Her forces capture King’s Landing, where she destroys much of the city with dragonfire and proclaims herself queen. Her rule ends when she is killed by Jon Snow, ending a transformative but controversial quest for the throne. In the novels, her fate remains unresolved as of the latest published volumes.
