Dadabhai

Dadabhai Naoroji was an Indian politician, lawyer, and economist who played a significant role in the Indian independence movement. Born on February 4, 1825, in Mumbai, he was the first Indian to hold a high judicial position in the British administration. Naoroji served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bombay and was the first Indian to be appointed as a judge in the Bombay High Court.

Naoroji is best known for his economic theories and his role in the Indian National Congress. He is often credited with introducing the concept of "drain of wealth" to the British public, arguing that India was being economically exploited by the British. His book "Poverty and Un-British Rule in India" (1873) was influential in shaping public opinion in Britain about the economic conditions in India.

In 1885, Naoroji was elected to the British House of Commons as one of two representatives from British India. He was the first Indian to hold a seat in the British Parliament. During his time in Parliament, he advocated for greater self-governance for India and criticized British imperial policies. His speeches and writings had a significant impact on the Indian National Congress and the broader Indian independence movement.

Naoroji's contributions to Indian politics and economics are significant. He is remembered for his courage in challenging British imperialism and his vision for a self-governing India. He died on June 30, 1917, in London, leaving behind a legacy of political activism and economic thought.
