DVBS2S2X

DVBS2S2X, commonly written DVB-S2/S2X, refers to the suite of satellite transmission standards defined by the DVB Project for point-to-point communications. It covers the second-generation DVB-S2 standard and its extension DVB-S2X, and is used in a range of services from direct-to-home television to broadband backhaul and professional data networks.

Key features of DVBS2S2X include enhanced forward error correction and modulation options. The system uses LDPC codes with an outer BCH code to improve error resilience, while expanding the available modulation and coding profiles to achieve higher spectral efficiency. DVB-S2X adds refinements intended to deliver higher data rates and better performance in challenging channel conditions such as rain fade, enabling more capacity within the same bandwidth and reduced link margins in some scenarios. The standard is designed to be backward compatible with DVB-S2, allowing equipment and networks to operate across profiles and transition gradually.

Applications commonly include high-throughput satellite services, internet access via satellite, and professional VSAT networks, as well as digital television distribution. DVBS2S2X is supported by major satellite operators and equipment manufacturers and is deployed on modern satellite fleets to maximize capacity and service quality.
