DSTA

DSTA stands for Defence Science and Technology Agency, a Singapore statutory board under the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). It is responsible for the engineering, procurement, and lifecycle support of defence equipment and systems for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), as well as for systems integration, information technology, and cyber security services that support national defense.

Established in the early 2000s to centralize defence procurement and technology development, DSTA undertakes a range of activities to deliver and sustain SAF capabilities. Its work encompasses programme management, systems engineering, and the delivery of equipment across air, land, and sea domains. In addition to procurement, DSTA leads in-service support, maintenance, and asset management, and it provides technology-related services such as software and cybersecurity, simulation, and training environments. The agency also oversees related facilities and environment management that support defence operations.

Organizationally, DSTA is headed by a Chief Executive and structured into divisions that focus on engineering, information technology and communications, programme and project management, and corporate services. The board and leadership are responsible for strategic direction, governance, and accountability to MINDEF and the Singapore Government.

DSTA collaborates with international defense contractors, local defense technology companies, universities, and research institutes to advance national capabilities. Through these partnerships, it seeks to develop and adapt technologies, transfer knowledge, and foster the local defense technology ecosystem. DSTA’s work is central to SAF modernization and to Singapore’s broader aims of secure and resilient national defense.
