DRX
DRX is an acronym used in different contexts, most notably in mobile communications and in esports. In telecommunications, DRX stands for Discontinuous Reception, a power-saving mechanism employed by mobile devices and network equipment in LTE and 5G networks. DRX allows the receiver to enter short sleep periods when downlink data is not expected, reducing battery consumption. A DRX cycle consists of an on-duration, during which the device monitors the channel, and a longer sleeping interval. The cycle length and on-duration are configurable, balancing battery life against potential delays in receiving data. In addition to DRX, networks use paging and inactivity timers to manage transitions between awake and sleep states. For Internet of Things devices, extended DRX (eDRX) provides longer sleep intervals to further conserve energy, at the cost of slower downlink responsiveness and higher wake-up latency.
In the context of esports, DRX is a South Korean professional organization, originally named DragonX. Based
