DOelektródok

DOelektródok, often referred to as DO electrodes, are a type of electrochemical sensor specifically designed to measure the concentration of dissolved oxygen in a liquid. The name "DOelektródok" is a direct transliteration of the Dutch term for "dissolved oxygen electrodes." These sensors are crucial in various scientific and industrial applications, including environmental monitoring, wastewater treatment, aquaculture, and food and beverage production.

The fundamental principle behind DOelektródok operation relies on the electrochemical reduction of oxygen at the electrode surface. Two main types of DOelektródok are commonly employed: polarographic and luminescent (or optical). Polarographic electrodes utilize a cathode and anode separated by an electrolyte. When a voltage is applied, oxygen diffuses across a membrane and is reduced at the cathode, generating an electrical current directly proportional to the dissolved oxygen concentration. Luminescent electrodes, on the other hand, employ a special dye that is excited by light. The presence of oxygen quenches the luminescence, and the degree of quenching is measured to determine the DO level.

Calibration of DOelektródok is essential for accurate readings. This typically involves exposing the electrode to a zero-oxygen solution (e.g., sodium sulfite) and a saturated oxygen solution (e.g., air-saturated water) to establish reference points. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and membrane replacement for polarographic types, is also necessary to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the sensor. The data obtained from DOelektródok provides vital information about water quality, metabolic activity, and process efficiency.
