DEKene

DEKene is a lesser-known but historically significant African musical genre that originated in the coastal regions of what is now Ghana, particularly in the Volta and Greater Accra areas. The term "DEKene" is derived from the Ewe language, where "de" means "to dance" and "kene" refers to a type of drum or rhythmic pattern, collectively describing both the music and the cultural practice associated with it. DEKene is deeply rooted in traditional Ewe and Ga cultural expressions, often performed during festivals, rites of passage, and communal celebrations.

The music typically features a combination of drumming, vocal chants, and rhythmic clapping, with instruments such as the *kidi* (a type of drum) and *atinkon* (a xylophone-like instrument) playing central roles.
