D26

A d26 is a dice with 26 faces used to generate a number from 1 to 26 in tabletop gaming and probability exercises. Because there is no regular polyhedron with exactly 26 equal faces, d26 dice are typically produced as irregular polyhedra, often based on trapezohedral or deltohedral designs, with faces numbered 1 through 26 (some variants use 0–25). A well-made d26 aims to provide a uniform distribution, with each face having equal probability when rolled on a flat surface.

Typical uses for a d26 include resolving game mechanics that require a broad, uniform 26-value range or mapping numbers to letters for word games and puzzles (for example, A=1 through Z=26). In play, the result is read from the top-facing face once the die comes to rest, similar to other standard dice. Some manufacturers market d26 dice as novelty items or specialized tools for random event tables, storytelling prompts, or educational activities.

Fairness depends on manufacturing quality; imperfect symmetry or weighting can bias results. To ensure reliability, players should source dice from reputable makers and, if precise probabilities are critical, test for uniformity. In practice, the d26 remains a niche option, far less common than d6 or d20, but it is used by collectors, puzzle designers, and players who need a 1–26 range or a letter-centric randomizer.
