Cumbrae

Cumbrae refers to the two islands in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland, known as Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae. Great Cumbrae is the larger and more populated of the two. It is located about two miles off the coast of Largs on the Ayrshire mainland. The main settlement on Great Cumbrae is the town of Millport, which is situated on the southern coast and is a popular tourist destination, particularly during the summer months.

The island is roughly circular, with a circumference of about 10 miles. It is known for its rolling hills, coastal paths, and small beaches. The highest point on Great Cumbrae is The Gallow Hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Firth of Clyde, the islands of Arran and Bute, and the Scottish mainland. Historically, the island has been inhabited for centuries, with evidence of Iron Age settlements.

Little Cumbrae is a much smaller and uninhabited island, located to the south of Great Cumbrae. It is privately owned and is notable for its lighthouse. The waters between the two islands and the mainland are often referred to as the "Cumbrae Channel." The islands are accessible by ferry from Largs, providing a regular service for residents and visitors. The economy of Great Cumbrae is largely based on tourism, with many visitors coming for day trips or short stays to enjoy the island's scenery and attractions.
