Csúcsnyomaték, often translated as peak torque, refers to the maximum torque a rotating machine, such as an electric motor or an internal combustion engine, can produce. Torque is a measure of the twisting force that causes rotation. It is calculated by multiplying the force applied by the distance from the axis of rotation.

In the context of engines, peak torque is a crucial performance indicator. It signifies the point in the engine's operating range where it delivers the strongest rotational force. This is often achieved at a specific engine speed, typically lower than the speed at which peak horsepower is generated. High peak torque generally translates to strong acceleration and good pulling power, making it particularly important for vehicles used for towing or hauling.

For electric motors, peak torque is also a significant parameter. Some electric motor designs, particularly permanent magnet synchronous motors, can achieve very high peak torque from a standstill, contributing to their reputation for rapid acceleration. Understanding a motor's torque curve, which plots torque against speed, is essential for selecting the appropriate motor for a given application and for optimizing its performance.
