Csontüregében is a Hungarian term that translates to "in the bone marrow" or "within the bone marrow" in English. This refers to the soft, spongy tissue found inside the cavities of bones. Bone marrow is a crucial component of the body's hematopoietic system, responsible for producing blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It also plays a role in the immune system and fat storage.

The structure of bone marrow differs between the long bones of the limbs and the flat bones of the torso. In adults, red bone marrow, where active blood cell production occurs, is primarily found in the vertebrae, ribs, sternum, skull, and pelvis. Yellow bone marrow, which consists mainly of fat cells, is found in the shafts of long bones and can convert to red marrow if the body requires an increased blood cell supply.

Medical conditions can affect bone marrow function. Hematological disorders such as leukemia, lymphoma, and aplastic anemia directly involve the bone marrow. Bone marrow biopsies are often performed to diagnose these conditions, assess their severity, and monitor treatment effectiveness. Stem cell transplantation, a life-saving procedure for certain blood disorders, involves replacing diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells.
