Crossentries

Crossentries are a type of word puzzle, similar to crosswords, but with a key difference in how clues are presented. In a traditional crossword, clues are given in separate lists, typically labeled "Across" and "Down." In a crossentry puzzle, however, the clue for a word is located directly within the grid, adjacent to the word it defines. This means that instead of looking at a separate list to find the clue, the solver finds the clue in the grid itself and then must locate the corresponding word.

The layout of a crossentry puzzle often features numbers within the grid that correspond to both the clue and the starting square of the answer. The clue might be placed directly above, below, to the left, or to the right of the word's starting cell. This arrangement requires a different solving strategy than standard crosswords. Solvers must scan the grid, identify clues, and then deduce the answer that fits the available space.

Crossentry puzzles can vary in difficulty. Some might have very straightforward clues, while others can be more challenging, requiring a broader vocabulary and a keen eye for detail within the grid. The unique presentation of clues can make them appealing to puzzle enthusiasts looking for a novel challenge.
