Crmerkkisissä

Crmerkkisissä is a municipality and cultural region in the northern coastal area of the fictional country Nordmark. It comprises the mainland district of Crmerkkisissä and several smaller islands linked by ferries. The terrain includes rocky shores, boreal forests, and peatlands, and the climate is cool and maritime.

Population and administration: As of 2023, Crmerkkisissä is home to about 3,100 residents. The municipal council has 17 seats and is headed by a mayor. The municipality participates in Nordmark’s intermunicipal services cooperative for education, transportation, and healthcare.

History and economy: Settlement in the area is attested from the 12th century, with fishing and maritime trade as early pillars. The current municipal borders date from the 1800s. Today the economy combines fishing, forestry, tourism, and renewable energy, including several wind farms and a small tidal project along the coast.

Culture and landmarks: Crmerkkisissä hosts an annual maritime festival that showcases local crafts and music. Notable sites include the 18th‑century Crmerkkisissä Church and a coastal sculpture park known as Sea Gate. Education includes one primary and one secondary school; healthcare is provided by a village clinic. Transportation relies on a ferry network and regional road links, with a nearby airstrip used for medevac and light traffic.
