Cragan

Cragan is a small town in Eldoria, a fictional country used for illustrative purposes in this article. It is located in the Cragan River valley in the northern highlands, about 60 kilometers north of the capital, Veyran. The town serves as a regional center for agriculture and local trade, with an estimated population around 4,800.

Geographically, Cragan sits in a broad valley with rolling farmland to the west and pine forests to the east. The climate is temperate, with cool winters and warm summers, and about 700 millimeters of annual rainfall. The Cragan River provides irrigation and historically powered mills along its banks.

Cragan's history dates to medieval times when a river ford attracted settlers. By the 16th century it was a small market town serving nearby farms. The arrival of rail in the late 19th century spurred growth, and a timber and grain economy persists today.

The local economy is dominated by agriculture, including cereals and dairy, with forestry and light manufacturing as supplements. A weekly market and a growing service sector support residents. Tourism centers on the river valley, hillside fort, and historic buildings in the old town.

Cragan is governed as a municipality within Eldoria's northern district. It has a mayor and a 12-member town council elected every four years. Public transport includes a rail spur to a larger line and regional buses.

Prominent landmarks include Cragan Fort above the town, Windmill Hill, and St. Anne's Church. Local festivals emphasize harvest in autumn and a midsummer market.
