Coïncidentes

Coïncidentes, a term derived from the French word for coincidence, refers to the occurrence of events that are seemingly connected but lack a causal relationship. These events are often perceived as meaningful or significant by individuals, leading to a sense of wonder or surprise. The concept of coïncidentes has been explored across various fields, including psychology, philosophy, and literature.

Psychologically, coïncidentes can be understood as a result of our innate tendency to find patterns and meaning in the world around us. This can lead to the overestimation of the significance of random occurrences. The brain may actively seek connections, even where none objectively exist, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as apophenia.

Philosophically, coïncidentes have been a subject of debate for centuries. Some view them as mere chance, while others suggest a deeper, perhaps even mystical, underlying order to the universe. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, introduced the concept of synchronicity, which he defined as a meaningful coincidence of two or more events where something other than the probability of their chance occurrence is involved. Synchronicity, in Jung's view, implies a connection between the inner psychological state and outer physical events.
