Counterstories
Counterstories are narratives that challenge and subvert dominant or prevailing accounts of events, experiences, or social phenomena. They originate from marginalized or oppressed groups who use their own perspectives to critique, resist, and redefine the stories that have historically been told about them by those in power. The concept of counterstorytelling is central to critical race theory and other social justice frameworks, emphasizing the importance of giving voice to those whose experiences have been silenced or distorted.
By offering alternative interpretations, counterstories can expose the biases, inequalities, and injustices embedded within dominant narratives.
