Cossette

Cossette is a type of edible mushroom. It is the common name for several species within the genus Amanita, most notably Amanita caesarea. This mushroom is characterized by its vibrant orange-red cap and bright yellow gills and stem. A distinctive feature of young cossettes is that they are enclosed within a volva, a sac-like structure at the base of the stem, often described as an "egg." As the mushroom grows, the cap emerges from this volva.

They typically grow in deciduous and coniferous forests, often in association with oak and pine trees. While the edible species are well-regarded, it is crucial to note that the Amanita genus also contains some of the world's most deadly poisonous mushrooms.
