Corossol

Corossol is the common name for Annona muricata, a tropical fruit-bearing tree native to the Caribbean and Central America. It is also known as soursop, guanábana, or graviola in various regions. The fruit itself is large, oval-shaped, and covered in soft, spiky green skin. The flesh inside is white, fibrous, and has a distinct sweet and tangy flavor, often described as a combination of strawberry, pineapple, and citrus.

The corossol tree is evergreen and can grow up to 8 meters tall. It produces relatively large, yellow-green flowers. The fruit develops from these flowers and is typically harvested when ripe, which is indicated by a slight softening of the skin and a pleasant aroma. Inside the flesh are numerous small, black, inedible seeds.

Corossol is consumed fresh, often eaten by scooping out the flesh. It is also widely used in juices, smoothies, sorbets, candies, and liqueurs. In some traditional medicine practices, parts of the corossol tree, including its leaves, bark, and roots, have been used for various ailments, though scientific evidence for these uses varies. The fruit is a source of vitamin C, B vitamins, and dietary fiber.
