Corcovado

Corcovado is the name of a prominent mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, best known for supporting the Christ the Redeemer statue. The peak rises about 710 meters above sea level and lies within the Tijuca National Park, part of the Tijuca Forest. The statue of Jesus Christ atop the summit was completed in 1931 and has become an iconic symbol of Rio and Brazil. Access to the summit is via a road and the Corcovado rack railway from the Cosme Velho district; from the summit, visitors can see panoramic views of Guanabara Bay, the city, and Sugarloaf Mountain.

Corcovado also refers to Corcovado National Park, a protected area on the Osa Peninsula in southwestern Costa
