Coproductions

Coproductions refer to collaborative production arrangements in which two or more independent organizations jointly plan, fund, develop, and distribute a product, service, or project. The term is used across several sectors, including film and television, cultural production, public services, and development projects.

In media and entertainment, coproductions typically involve producers from two or more countries pooling funding and resources to create content that can be distributed in multiple markets. Such arrangements often rely on formal agreements specifying budget shares, rights, credit, and revenue splits, and may be supported by national or regional funding bodies and tax incentives. In Europe, co-productions are supported by international treaties and networks that facilitate cross-border collaboration, such as the European Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production.

In public services and civil society, coproduction describes a process in which citizens or user groups participate in the design, delivery, or evaluation of services alongside government agencies. This approach aims to improve relevance and accountability, but it requires clear roles, decision rights, resource commitments, and mechanisms for accountability and quality control.
