Conductorstension refers to the physical force applied to a conductor, such as a wire or cable, to keep it taut and in place. This tension is crucial in various applications, including overhead power lines, suspension bridges, and musical instrument strings.

In electrical transmission, overhead conductors are held under tension by towers and poles. This tension ensures that the conductors sag within acceptable limits, preventing them from touching the ground or other obstructions. The amount of tension is carefully calculated to account for factors like conductor weight, temperature variations (which cause expansion and contraction), wind loads, and ice accumulation. Too little tension can lead to excessive sag, while too much can overstress the conductor and supporting structures.
