Conceptmissie

Conceptmissie is a term used in Dutch-language management and organizational studies to denote an early, draft version of an organization's mission statement. It functions as a working artifact during strategy development, intended to be discussed, tested, and refined before a final mission is adopted.

A conceptmissie typically outlines the organization's core purpose, the main activities or offerings, the intended audience or beneficiaries, and references to core values and strategic scope. It is usually developed through collaborative workshops, interviews with stakeholders, and alignment with vision and strategic goals. It is designed to be concise and testable; the ultimate mission statement should emerge from the iteration after feedback and further analysis.

In practice, conceptmissies are used by corporations, non-profits, and public institutions as a transitional artifact to facilitate alignment and decision-making. It sits alongside concepts like the vision statement and the values set, and should be distinct from the final mission while guiding initial decisions. Limitations include the risk of ambiguity if kept too long as a draft, or misalignment if feedback is not properly integrated.
