Compressorefficiëntie refers to how effectively a compressor converts input energy into useful compressed air. It is a crucial factor in the operational cost and environmental impact of pneumatic systems. High efficiency means less energy is wasted as heat, vibration, or leakage, resulting in lower electricity consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

There are several types of compressors, each with varying efficiency characteristics. Reciprocating compressors, while versatile, can have lower full-load efficiency and are prone to internal leakage. Rotary screw compressors generally offer better efficiency and a more consistent air supply. Centrifugal compressors are known for high flow rates and good part-load efficiency, making them suitable for large industrial applications.

Efficiency is typically measured in units of energy per volume of air compressed, such as kilowatt-hours per 100 cubic feet per minute (kWh/100 cfm) or joules per liter (J/L). Factors influencing compressor efficiency include compressor design, operating conditions (pressure and flow), maintenance practices, and the presence of leaks in the compressed air system.

Improving compressor efficiency often involves selecting the right type and size of compressor for the application, optimizing operating pressures, implementing variable speed drives (VSDs) to match output to demand, and regularly maintaining the equipment to prevent wear and leakage. Energy recovery systems can also capture waste heat generated by the compressor for other uses, further enhancing overall system efficiency.
