Compressiondensification

Compressiondensification is a neologism used to describe processes that simultaneously reduce the volume of a system and increase its density, through coupled compression and consolidation. The term is used across disciplines to denote a class of transformative procedures that aim to produce higher density without proportionate expansion of the system’s footprint.

In materials science and engineering, compressiondensification often refers to compacting porous materials before or during sintering, hot isostatic pressing, or similar densification steps.
