Codelabeled

Codelabeled is a term used to describe the practice of attaching a concise code identifier to data items or code artifacts to represent their category, metadata, or status. The approach emphasizes machine readability and consistency across datasets, projects, and tooling.

In data labeling, each sample is annotated with a code from a controlled vocabulary or ontology, rather than a free-text label. The mapping from code to human-readable label is stored in a separate dictionary or schema, enabling uniform interpretation across systems and languages. This enables efficient programmatic processing, versioning, and auditing of labeled data.

In software engineering and documentation, code-labeled artifacts may include metadata tags with standardized codes. Such codes facilitate automated validation, search, filtering, and cross-referencing, and they help maintain a consistent taxonomy of issues, features, or statuses across repositories and teams.
