Cobalaminin

Cobalaminin is a proposed protein or protein complex associated with binding and transporting cobalamin (vitamin B12) in speculative biochemistry. The term mixes cobalamin with the common protein suffix -in and is used to discuss a potential class of cobalamin-binding modules. In the hypothetical model, cobalaminin would function as an intracellular carrier that captures B12, protects it from inactivation, and transfers it to B12-dependent enzymes or storage sites.

Structural predictions describe cobalaminin as a single polypeptide or a multimeric assembly containing domains reminiscent of known cobalamin-binding modules. The protein is theorized to bind cobalamin via interactions with the corrin ring and the cobalt center, with proposed binding affinities spanning high to moderate nanomolar ranges under physiological conditions. Its localization and transport properties are not defined in any confirmed system, but speculative models place it in cytosolic or organellar compartments where B12 metabolism occurs.

Discovery and current status: cobalaminin has not been demonstrated in broadly accepted experiments, and references remain limited to a small number of speculative or theoretical papers. It is not included in major protein databases, and its existence is a subject of debate among researchers studying cobalamin biology.
