Coarsethreaded

Coarsethreaded refers to a type of screw thread characterized by a larger pitch and fewer threads per inch (TPI) compared to fine-threaded screws of the same diameter. This means the distance between adjacent thread crests is greater in a coarse thread. Coarse threads are generally more resistant to loosening from vibration due to their deeper, more angled engagement with the mating thread. They are also typically easier and faster to assemble and disassemble because fewer turns are required to engage or disengage the screw.

The designation of a coarse thread often includes the nominal diameter followed by the thread pitch in millimeters for metric threads, or the nominal diameter followed by the TPI for imperial threads. For example, an M10x1.5 coarse thread indicates a 10mm diameter screw with a 1.5mm pitch. In the imperial system, a 1/4-20 screw has a 1/4 inch diameter and 20 TPI, which is its coarse thread designation. Common applications for coarsethreaded fasteners include general assembly in construction, automotive, and manufacturing where speed of assembly and resistance to vibration are primary concerns. They are less suitable for applications requiring very precise adjustments or where space is limited, as the larger pitch can make fine control more difficult.
