Cilgerran

Cilgerran is a village and community located in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It lies on the River Teifi, approximately two miles inland from Cardigan. The village is notable for its dramatic setting, perched on a hillside overlooking the river gorge.

The most prominent historical feature of Cilgerran is Cilgerran Castle. The ruins of this Norman motte-and-bailey castle stand on a rocky outcrop above the River Teifi. Although largely in ruins, the castle remains a picturesque landmark and is a popular visitor attraction. The castle's strategic position suggests it was built to control the River Teifi crossing.

The village itself has a traditional Welsh character, with a parish church dedicated to St. Llawddog. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the wooded Teifi gorge, offering opportunities for walking and exploring. The River Teifi is also known for its salmon and sewin (sea trout) fishing.

Cilgerran forms part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Its proximity to the coast and its natural beauty contribute to its appeal for tourism. The community is served by local amenities, and its history is intertwined with the medieval past of West Wales.
