Christiania is a name used for several places in Scandinavia. The two most commonly encountered references are to the historic name of Oslo, Norway, and to Freetown Christiania, a semi-autonomous district in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In Norway, the city now known as Oslo was officially called Christiania—also rendered Kristiania—from 1624, when it was rebuilt after a major fire and renamed in honor of King Christian IV. The name was used in Danish-Norwegian official contexts for centuries, and it appeared in maps and documents abroad. The community has historically been associated with a tolerant stance toward cannabis trade in its area, notably along a market street, a situation that has drawn ongoing legal and political scrutiny. While it functions with a level of autonomy, it remains under Danish national and municipal law.
