Chamos
Chamos, also known as Chamosite, is an iron-rich chlorite mineral. Its chemical formula is generally expressed as (Fe,Mg,Al)6(Si,Al)4O10(OH)8, though variations exist due to substitutions. Chamosite is typically found in sedimentary rocks, particularly iron formations, where it often occurs as oolitic or pisolitic grains. It can also be present in shales and mudstones, and occasionally in low-grade metamorphic rocks.
The mineral is characterized by its green to dark green color, though it can sometimes appear brownish.
Chamosite is not a significant ore mineral for iron, as its iron content is not easily extractable.
