Centralstyre

Centralstyre is a term used in Danish-language political discussions to refer to the central government or central authorities of a state, contrasted with regional or local governance. While the exact connotations vary, it generally denotes the level of government that coordinates nationwide policy, law, and administration.

In practice, centralstyre encompasses policymaking at the national level, the preparation and implementation of the national budget, foreign relations, defense, standard-setting, and the supervision of civil service. It is the layer of government that seeks to align disparate regional practices under a common framework and to ensure nationwide applicability of core policies.

Many political systems employ some form of centralstyre through administrative centralization (placing authority in central ministries or agencies), fiscal centralization (central control of taxation and expenditure), and legislative centralization (nationwide laws applying across the whole state).
