Celleprøver

Celleprøver, often referred to as cell samples or cytological specimens, are biological materials collected for microscopic examination. These samples are typically obtained from bodily fluids or tissues and are used to diagnose diseases, monitor treatment effectiveness, or screen for abnormalities. The primary goal of a celleprøve is to analyze individual cells to identify any deviations from normal cellular structure or function.

Common sources for celleprøver include blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and secretions. Tissue samples, such as those obtained through biopsies or surgical procedures, can also be prepared as cell samples. The collection method varies depending on the source and the purpose of the examination. For instance, a Pap smear is a specific type of celleprøve used for cervical cancer screening, where cells are gently scraped from the cervix.

Once collected, the cells are usually processed and stained to enhance visibility under a microscope. A pathologist or cytotechnologist then examines the stained slide to look for characteristic changes associated with various conditions, including infections, inflammation, and cancer. The interpretation of a celleprøve is a critical diagnostic tool in many medical fields, contributing significantly to patient care and early disease detection.
