CanadianAmerican is an informal designation for a person who holds or identifies with both Canadian and American nationality or heritage. It is not a formal nationality and may reflect dual citizenship or a bi-national cultural identity, often arising from birth in one country to national parents, naturalization in the other, or long-term residence and cultural ties.

In legal terms, Canada permits dual or multiple citizenship and does not require a person to renounce one nationality to obtain or retain Canadian citizenship. The United States likewise allows dual citizenship; acquiring citizenship of another country does not automatically end U.S. citizenship, though it can create complexities for certain obligations and rights. U.S. citizens must consider taxes on worldwide income and the potential for reporting requirements when living abroad, while Canadian residents are taxed on Canadian-sourced income. The two countries have tax treaties and cross-border agreements to prevent double taxation and to facilitate travel and work. Individuals who are CanadianAmerican may be subject to the laws and responsibilities of both countries, including voting rights, eligibility for government programs, and travel documentation (usually requiring both Canadian and American passports in appropriate circumstances).
