Calcificada

Calcificada is a Spanish term that translates to "calcified" in English. It refers to the process or state of calcium deposits accumulating in soft tissues or other abnormal locations within the body. This calcification is a common occurrence and can be associated with various physiological and pathological conditions.

In healthy individuals, calcification is a normal process, particularly in bone formation where calcium is a primary mineral component. However, calcification can also occur in areas where it is not expected. For example, arterial calcification, also known as atherosclerosis, is a hallmark of cardiovascular disease and contributes to the hardening and narrowing of blood vessels. This can lead to serious health problems such as heart attacks and strokes.

Calcification can also be seen in other soft tissues like cartilage, tendons, and even within organs such as the kidneys or lungs. The causes of abnormal calcification are diverse and can include aging, chronic inflammation, metabolic disorders, trauma, or the presence of certain medical conditions.
