CTtüdangiográfia, also known as CT pulmonary angiography or CTPA, is a medical imaging technique used to visualize the pulmonary arteries. It is a non-invasive procedure that combines computed tomography (CT) scanning with the injection of a contrast agent. The contrast agent highlights the blood vessels in the lungs, making them clearly visible on the CT images.

The primary indication for CTtüdangiográfia is the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE), a condition where a blood clot travels to the lungs and blocks an artery. Symptoms of PE can include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, and coughing up blood. CTPA is highly sensitive and specific for detecting PE.

The procedure typically involves the patient lying on their back on a CT scanner table. An intravenous line is inserted into an arm vein, through which the contrast agent is injected. The patient is asked to hold their breath for a few seconds while the CT scan is performed. The entire process is usually quick, taking only a few minutes.

After the scan, the images are processed by a radiologist who analyzes them for any abnormalities, such as blood clots. The results are then communicated to the referring physician, who will use this information to guide further treatment. While CTPA is generally safe, potential risks include allergic reactions to the contrast agent and radiation exposure, although the latter is minimized with modern CT technology.
