CRISPRpohjaisilla
CRISPRpohjaisilla refers to technologies based on the CRISPR-Cas system. CRISPR, which stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, is a naturally occurring defense mechanism found in bacteria and archaea. These organisms use CRISPR sequences to store fragments of DNA from invading viruses. When a virus attacks again, the CRISPR system produces RNA molecules that guide a Cas (CRISPR-associated) enzyme to the invading DNA. The Cas enzyme then cuts the viral DNA, neutralizing the threat.
Scientists have adapted this system for gene editing. In this engineered form, a guide RNA molecule directs
This gene editing capability has profound implications for research and medicine. It allows scientists to study
