CRCberäkningar, also known as Cyclical Redundancy Check calculations, are a type of error detection method used to ensure the accuracy of digital data. The term CRC is an abbreviation for the French term "Centre de Cap justices", which was later translated to "Cyclic Redundancy Check" and further shortened to just "CRC".

The process of CRCberäkningar involves calculating a polynomial expression based on the data being transmitted. This expression is derived from the data's binary representation and is typically a single bit number. At the receiving end, an identical CRC calculation is performed on the received data, and the two results are compared. If the results match, the data is considered error-free and can be accepted. However, if there is a discrepancy, it indicates that an error has occurred during transmission and the data must be retransmitted.

CRCberäkningar are commonly used in digital communication systems, such as in networking protocols like TCP/IP, as well as in file formats and other digital media.
