CQPweb

CQPweb is a free, web-based front end for the Corpus Query Processor (CQP), a search engine for large text corpora. It provides a browser-based interface that allows researchers to create and execute CQP queries, view results as concordances and frequency lists, and analyze collocations and keyword-in-context data. CQPweb supports multiple corpora, user authentication, and project-level metadata, enabling collaboration and controlled access within research teams.

Queries are written in the CQP query language; the interface supplies templates, syntax guidance, and options for regular expressions and pattern-based searches. Result displays include KWIC concordances with contextual highlighting, adjustable window sizes, and filters. Data can be exported as CSV/TSV or plain text for downstream analysis.

Technically, CQPweb runs on a standard web server stack and connects to a CQP engine to execute queries. It stores corpus metadata, user information, and query results in a database and provides administration tools for managing corpora, users, and permissions. The system is designed to be deployed on local institutional servers or in shared computing environments and can integrate with existing CQP installations.

Development and distribution emphasize openness and extensibility; CQPweb has been adopted by linguistics departments and research consortia to build and explore corpora of various languages and genres. It is maintained by a community of contributors as open-source software.
