CO2tasot

CO2tasot is a hypothetical carbon dioxide capture and utilization concept that combines solid sorbent-based capture with catalytic conversion of CO2 into useful products via a modular catalyst system called tasot. The term is used in speculative literature and is not a widely validated technology.

Concept and components: The scheme centers on a dual-cycle unit: a CO2 adsorption/desorption cycle on a porous solid sorbent, and a catalytic conversion stage where captured CO2 is transformed into products such as fuels, plastics precursors, or chemicals. The tasot catalyst module is described as tunable to favor specific products and to operate at moderate temperatures.

Process steps: In operation, ambient air or flue gas is directed to the sorbent bed, CO2 is captured, then released under regeneration conditions and routed to the catalytic reactor. The products are separated and energy streams are minimized through process integration.

Status and critique: CO2tasot remains hypothetical; no full-scale demonstration has been reported in peer-reviewed literature. Proponents cite potential reductions in energy use and seamless integration with existing capture sites, while critics point to material stability, catalyst aging, and high capital costs.
