CO2neutrale
CO2neutrale is a term used to describe a state in which net carbon dioxide emissions are zero within a defined boundary and period. It can apply to organizations, products, events, transportation systems, or geographic regions. Achieving CO2 neutrality typically involves two pillars: reducing emissions as much as possible and balancing or offsetting the remaining emissions. Reductions can come from energy efficiency, switching to renewable or low‑carbon energy, electrification, and design choices that lower life-cycle emissions. Offsets or removals are then used to compensate for remaining emissions; these may include verified carbon credits from projects that reduce or sequester greenhouse gases, or insetting approaches within the value chain, or natural climate solutions. Emissions are measured in CO2 equivalents (CO2e) and are often assessed within a boundary that includes direct emissions (scope 1), energy-related indirect emissions (scope 2), and sometimes other indirect emissions (scope 3).
Different standards exist to certify CO2 neutrality, including PAS 2060, ISO 14064, and programs aligned with
Critics note that relying on offsets alone may not reduce root causes and emphasize the need for
