CNEN stands for Comissao Nacional de Energia Nuclear, the Brazilian federal agency responsible for regulating the peaceful use of nuclear energy, protecting people and the environment from ionizing radiation, and safeguarding nuclear materials. Established in 1956, CNEN operates under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI). Its mandate includes licensing and supervising nuclear facilities and activities, regulating the possession, transport, storage, and disposal of radioactive sources, and ensuring radiation protection and nuclear safety across the country.
