CMYKjärjestelmää refers to the subtractive color model used in color printing. It stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (which is black). In this system, colors are created by subtracting light from a white surface. When printing, inks of these four colors are applied to paper. The combination of these inks absorbs certain wavelengths of light and reflects others, creating the perceived color.

Cyan ink absorbs red light, magenta absorbs green light, and yellow absorbs blue light. Black ink is included because mixing cyan, magenta, and yellow inks does not produce a pure black; it often results in a muddy brown or dark gray. The "K" in CMYK stands for "Key" because black was historically used to "key" or align the other color plates during the printing process.

The CMYK model is the standard for most commercial printing, including magazines, brochures, and packaging. When you see a color image reproduced in print, it is likely using CMYK inks. Each color in the image is broken down into a percentage of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink required to create that specific hue. The precise combination and dot pattern of these inks determine the final color seen by the viewer. This differs from the additive color model (RGB) used in digital displays, where colors are created by adding light.
