CLPsüsteemi

CLPsüsteemi refers to the Finnish implementation of the European Union's Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation. The CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 aims to harmonise the classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances and mixtures across all EU member states. This ensures that the hazards associated with chemicals are clearly communicated to consumers and workers, promoting a high level of protection for human health and the environment.

In Finland, the CLP Regulation is enforced through national legislation, primarily the Chemicals Act and related decrees. Finnish authorities, such as the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), oversee its implementation. The system requires manufacturers, importers, and downstream users of chemicals to classify, label, and package their products according to the CLP criteria before placing them on the market. This involves identifying the hazardous properties of a substance or mixture, assigning appropriate hazard classes and categories, and communicating these hazards through standardised pictograms, signal words, hazard statements, and precautionary statements on product labels. Safety data sheets (SDS) also play a crucial role in providing comprehensive information about chemical hazards and safe handling procedures. The CLP system is essential for ensuring chemical safety throughout the supply chain in Finland.
