CLPGHSKlassifikationen is a structured framework developed in the early 2000s to standardize the categorization of educational institutions across Germany, particularly focusing on comprehensive high schools (Gesamtschulen). The system was introduced by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in collaboration with the German Council of Science and Humanities. Its primary objective is to facilitate comparative educational research, resource allocation, and policy development by providing a clear taxonomy of school types, curricula, and extracurricular orientations.

The classification hierarchy is divided into three main levels. Level one distinguishes between federal, state, and municipal schools. Level two groups institutions according to their academic focus: (1) Leistungsorientierte Gesamtschulen (performance-oriented), (2) Berufsintegrative Gesamtschulen (vocational-integrated), and (3) Multikulturelle Gesamtschulen (multicultural). Level three further refines each group by curriculum specifics, such as emphasis on STEM, arts, or foreign languages, and by the presence of international programs or integrated special education services. Each school is assigned a unique CLPGHS code that is used in national statistical reports and for eligibility in federal funding programs.

CLPGHSKlassifikationen has influenced several national education reforms by providing a common language for describing school profiles. Researchers use the system to track longitudinal outcomes of students across different school types, while policymakers apply it to assess the distribution of educational resources and to design targeted intervention strategies.
