CISPRStandards

CISPR Standards are a family of international electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards developed by the CISPR committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). They specify limits for, and methods of measuring, electromagnetic emissions from electrical and electronic equipment, as well as the equipment’s immunity to electromagnetic disturbances. The aim is to ensure that devices operate reliably in the presence of RF interference and do not generate excessive interference themselves.

The scope covers radiated and conducted emissions, radiated and conducted immunity, and the test methodologies and laboratory requirements used to verify compliance. The CISPR documents also prescribe laboratory environments, instrumentation, and reporting formats. In practice, many product families have dedicated CISPR standards for their category, and the measurement procedures are designed to be harmonized to support international certification and market access. The series also includes standards governing measurement instrumentation and laboratories (test equipment and procedures) under CISPR 16.

Adoption and updates: National regulators often reference CISPR limits or adopt them directly into their own EMC regulations. Manufacturers seek conformity to CISPR standards to demonstrate compliance with multiple markets. The CISPR standards are revised periodically to address evolving technologies such as wireless devices and more complex electronic systems, and they reflect ongoing harmonization with IEC requirements to facilitate international trade.
